Patagonia First ascent of the north-west face Of Cerro Piergiorgio
It’s two o’clock a.m. when Christian and I finally succeed in reaching the north-west summit of Cerro Piergiorgio, after attempting it for three years. Under the first snowflakes and the outlines of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre on the horizon, we can achieve our goal at last, proud of shouting “Cumbre” to the world. Finally we can look at this wall from its top! I am exactly where I wished to be and I start thinking of the three past years I devoted to this long-awaited moment, and to all the hardships and the joys I felt together with my partners. My mind immediately races to Giovanni who cannot share this joy with us. A few days before, he hurt both his hands, while pursuing our mutual dream.
